Writing is a skill that is needed throughout life. When kids don’t foster a love of it early on, performing and excelling can be difficult. Change that outcome with the Institute for Excellence in Writing.
So study time and family time were now her priority after she left the office. You will find several companies online that are currently looking for writers. They always seem to have work and never appear to have enough writers to get it all completed. That means that you have a huge opportunity to have a career in this writing business. Take the time to understand how to write the styles that are currently being sought after and then start bidding on jobs with any site that will allow you an opportunity.
What’s going on at school: Be involved with your teen’s school work. Ask what they have learned each day and ask them to quiz you to see what you know about science, English literature, geography, etc. Kids often enjoy teaching their parents for a change. As they are quizzing you, they are strengthening their own knowledge of the day’s lesson.
Once you have a fairly clear idea what you want to write, it’s time to take things up a notch and create a blueprint. Whereas the first part of the planning stage should be quite free-flowing, it’s now time to arrange things into a cohesive structure. Some people skip the blueprint stage altogether, and that’s a matter of personal preference and also depends on what you’re writing and why. But I find rushing ahead to write before I have a clear idea what I’m writing about often leads to dead-ends and a lot of frustration and wasted time. I like to have a blueprint for what I’m writing – or at the very least a clear idea of the beginning, middle and end. Then I can simply relax into the next step and be confident that there’s an underlying structure in place to keep me right.
If you just want to write for fun without making money, that’s fine; but if you want to earn a living writing, you should treat your writing as a business. This means you should develop a business plan for your writing.
A great tool for learning is language exchanges. You will find this in newspapers and magazines or the internet. This is a more informal learning technique. Here, you learn by conversing informally rather than following a curriculum.
If your teen reports a problem to you, remember that you are her best resource. You may not have all the answers but you know how to get help. Encourage her to bring questions, issues, or problems to you for discussion as soon as possible after the babysitting job. As an adult, your judgment and life experiences are important to help your teen make decisions on how to handle situations. She will most likely report a problem concerning a child’s behavior that she can’t handle. Or she might tell you the parents asked her to do more than she was able to do. You can help your child learn to refuse future babysitting jobs with this family.
Who do you want to read your writing? Who will be enthralled with your novel or helped by your how-to book or article? When you identify your ideal readers, you gain clarity. Choices about what to include and what style and words to use become easier.
On a final note, I believe what differentiates one writing from another is the angle and purpose. While the purpose of differs they should always be tackled from angles that will interest and inform the readers.
